This espresso blend koncist of a really nice bean from Minas Gerais in BRAZIL. Fazenda Primavera is located in the municipality of Angelândia, Minas Gerais, a region at the transition between biomes, with land and vegetation characteristic of both the Atlantic forest and the Cerrado. The farm’s elevations, between 1000 to 1050 meters above sea level, promote the cultivation of specialty coffee and the climate also provides favourable conditions with average temperatures between 20 and 24 °C annually and precipitation of 1,000 to 1,300 mm.

Fazenda Primavera has state of the art installations including a 24,000 m² drying patio, 14 electric dryers, and equipment for processing Natural, Pulped Natural, Honey, and fully Washed coffees. The farm cultivates predominately Red and Yellow Catuai and has been adding new varieties, from Topazio to Geisha. Pulped Natural Geisha from Primavera won first place at the 2018 Cup of Excellence!

Social and environmental sustainability have always been integral to the farm’s operations and it is of great importance to Ricardo that production techniques minimize environmental damage. A power plant on the farm recycles water used in depulping to produce energy and the coffee pulp is composted for use as natural fertilizer. Primavera’s team conducts outreach to neighboring farmers to share knowledge and best practices to help move the region of Angelândia and Chapada de Minas forward, particularly through Instituto Café Solidario. Read more about the practices that earned Fazenda Primavera the title of 3rd Most Sustainable Farm in Brazil.

The second coffee is an Organic COLOMBIAN bean from the Huila area and the Café Origin group. The café origin group is a group of smallholder producers located in the southern region of Huila Department. The farmers have been implementing consistent organic farming practices for many years. Their goal is to produce high quality certified beans to supply the international specialty market and become the leading supplier in organic coffees from Huila. In order to professionalize their services they have already set up a small quality lab where they regularly analyze their own and even other coffees. So far, we can definitely tell that their efforts in providing an excellent cup have paid off. Paired with their holistic approach towards sustainable business development this family company appears to have a bright future ahead.

The last coffee is an Organic Fairtrade coffee from the Cajamarca region in PERU and the Cooperative CEDROS CAFE SAC. From its beginning in 2009 until 2013, CEDROS CAFE SAC was a business organized to facilitate sustainable coffee trade with social, environmental, and economic responsibility. The name CEDROS CAFE comes from its Spanish acronym, Centro Empresarial de Desarollo Rural Sostenible de Cafe, which means Business Center for Sustainable Rural Coffee Development. Services included a specialty coffee program, rural micro credits, and permanent training.

Coop CEDROS CAFE’s main facility is located in Jaén, Cajamarca. Members’ farms span elevations between 1200 and 2000 meters above sea level and cover a total of 640 hectares. CEDROS CAFE coffee is certified both Fairtrade and Organic, meaning that it was produced without the use of any agrochemical inputs. Coffee ships from the Pacific port of Paita.

CEDROS Cafe is part of the Cafe Selva Norte project of Ecotierra’s Eleva Finca. Cafe Selva Norte is a collective carbon-neutralizing supply chain overhaul in Cajamarca and Amazonas, Peru. The Cafe Selva Norte mill is under construction in Jaen; more than 800 producers will have access to a shared milling facility and more than 300 have already received micro credits to finance the conversion of their land from slash-and-burn degraded properties into productive and restorative agroforestry. The project builds a self-sustaining carbon neutral coffee supply chain through the eventual generation and sale of carbon credits from carbon sequestration by hardwood tree species planted as part of a coffee agroforestry system.
